Last weekend was madness, and we enjoyed every moment (ok, minus a couple that were filled with tantrums or perhaps really failed cupcake-making adventures.) Friday evening we held Julian's 2nd birthday party (which is deceiving as it was really his first real birthday party). It was organized chaos to say the least, but Julian had such a great time it was well worth it. Here's what I managed to photograph...which wasn't much as it was kind of difficult to keep on top of snapping photos as the night wore on.
We had:
1.) Cupcakes. Made with love by yours truly. To say that I am not a baker NOR a crafter is the understatement of the millenium. Sure, they look passable here, but had Wal-Mart just offered a Wow Wow Wubbzy cake to start with, I would not have had to struggle with A) finding all the things necessary for making the cupcakes, which included trips to multiple locations with cranky toddler in tow.....B) Constructing (and poorly at that) the cupcake toppers that looked a lot less like kindergarten crafting gone wrong when I imagined them in my head......and C) The mess that results when you fill cupcake cups 3/4 (or more) full instead of 2/3 full and who the heck said I was good at fractions anyhow?
Dear Wal-Mart: Please expand your cake themes. Please and thank you.

| Pirate Wubbzy! |
On to the rest of the party...
2) Balloons!
| Duh....this IS Julian afterall |
3.) Wubbzy out the wazoo.
| The kiddie table |
4.) FUN FUN and more FUN (and chaos...lots of chaos)
| We borrowed this nifty little water slide.... |
| (Whee!) |
| And this Spiderman bouncy house from our neighbors. The kids had a blast - and more importantly - stayed cool in the 100+ degree heat. |
| Julian loved having his friends around! |
| Oh, and then we threw in a slip-n-slide for good measure. |
5.) Food.
After a failed attempt at getting the kids to eat dinner...we gave them cupcakes.
| Pirate Julian blowing out his candles (unfortunately he seems to be mostly 'over' the pirate thing now, which is unfortunate as he makes such an adorable one! |
| What a difference a year makes...last year he wouldn't even taste his cake, this year he was on his third cupcake before the party even started. This kid loves him some cupcakes. |
| YUM. |
| Proof that even failed cupcake projects can be tasty! |
| After the guests departed, we cleaned up and Julian sent his balloons 'to the moon' with Grandma. |
| There they go! (followed by many more) |
And the next morning he woke up 2.
